Due to a serious increase in illegal dumping at the Town’s unmanned yard waste collection area, hours of operation are temporarily being reduced to 8-4pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays only so that the site can be secured. Video surveillance is being re-installed. This facility is operated on a trust basis with the community as running a staffed facility would be prohibitively expensive for the Town and rate payers.
Please contact bylaw@nanton.ca if you have any information about the specific pictured debris - an enforcement file is being opened. Additional to dumping being illegal, a nuisance upon any Town property carries an initial fine of $500, which can increase to $5,000 after repeat offences. The Town’s yard waste area on 19th Avenue is open for grass clippings, branches up to a 5cm diameter and leaves or other natural debris. Construction and other types of waste must be taken directly to the Foothills Regional Landfill if not part of the regular residential waste collection.
