[ARCHIVED] Wildlife in Town

bear.jpg

Recently, the Town of Nanton has been fielding numerous calls from the public with concerns of a bear in the town limits. The Director of Municipal Enforcement has been in constant contact with Alberta Fish and Wildlife regarding the situation. It is strongly recommended that the public at large does NOT attempt to locate the bear.

This animal is looking for food and will be looking for any berries, crab apples and anything else it can find to eat. It is recommended that should you have crab apple trees, etc., that you make sure all pieces of fruit that have fallen off of the trees are cleaned up and there is nothing lying around on the ground.

Fish and Wildlife officers are diligently patrolling the town in attempts to locate the animal. Should officers locate the animal and set a trap for it, please avoid this area. We ask for your cooperation and refrain from posting pictures of the bear, as this will draw an unnecessary crowd.

Should you spot the animal within town, please contact the Claresholm Alberta Fish & Wildlife at 403-625-1450 Monday to Friday from 8:15 to 4:30pm. For after hours, please call 1-800-642-3800.
