The Municipal Planning Commission (MPC) acts as a development and subdivision authority for the Town on matters relating to the Land Use Bylaw and in accordance with the MPC Bylaw. The Appeal Board hears appeals from those who have been affected by development authority or subdivision authority decisions in accordance with the Chinook Intermunicipal Subdivision and Development Appeal Board Bylaw. Members cannot act as a member of both an MPC and an Appeal Board. Members are entitled to remuneration for eligible expenses and shall receive training and certification as required for their duties.
Desirable Qualifications:
Demonstrate integrity to be perceived as fair and impartial;
Good analytical and reasoning skills;
- Have regard for the interests of property owners, developers, and other parties most affected by development;
- Involvement in the community and/or knowledge in development-related areas such as architecture, engineering/construction or land use planning;
- Knowledge, or willingness to learn, about subdivision and development processes;
- Willingness to serve a minimum term of 2 years as an appeal board member, 1 year for MPC
- Willingness to travel to appeal hearings outside of Nanton if required as an appeal board member
