The Town of Nanton is excited to announce the completion of the Solar PV array project at the Tom Hornecker Recreation Centre. A total of one hundred and thirty-six 400-watt solar panels have been installed on the top of the curling rink roof which will be used to generate electricity and help to reduce the buildings overall electrical consumption.

As part of the Town’s commitment to long term sustainability this project was highlighted as a way to help improve the energy efficiency of the recreation center. Working with the Municipal Climate Change Action Center of Alberta and one of their program allies the Town was able to secure a large incentive (approximately $50,000) which will cover almost 36% of the project costs.

The Solar Array project is expected to save the Town $8,000 on an annual basis, and energy savings of 63,233 kWh are expected. Overall a very worthwhile project that will show benefits for many years to come.
