With the exception of some common and minor signs types, most signs require an approved development (sign) permit prior to display. Signs that do not have a valid permit or were non-compliant under the current or a previous Bylaw must be altered to comply. The Land Use Bylaw, including the sign regulations, will be enforced by the Development Authority or through Municipal Enforcement staff. Offences under the Bylaw can result in penalties of $500 per offence. Continuing non-compliance with the Bylaw can result in the Town removing a sign without notice and charging the costs associated with its removal to the sign owner. A sign recovery charge of $500 will be required prior to the return of the sign to the owner. Any signs removed by the Town may be held for 30 days after removal at the owner’s risk. Should the signs not be claimed by the owner after 30 days from the date of removal, the signs will be disposed of at the Town’s discretion. If you have concerns about a sign and what may be considered non-compliant, please contact the Planning and Development Officer at 646-2029.
