[ARCHIVED] Spring is in the air! But..

spring is in the air but

The good news is that Spring seems to be on its way!

The challenge is we could be in for a few days of dealing with drainage issues as the snow melts.

As we all know, Nanton is built on a hill and the natural sloping is a big part of our storm water drainage strategy along with some storm water lines.

Given our current situation, there is the potential for water build up and/or isolated flooding. This isn’t usually the case, but it’s been quite a winter!

Today and into the weekend the Town crew will be busy getting:

  • Snow windrows moved off the roads
  • Moving piles of snow near the highway
  • Unfreezing / clearing major catch basins.
  • Planning for a possible event like this is very challenging. We ask residents to do what they can safely do to maintain drainage in and around their property.

What can you do to keep your home safe:

  • Keep sidewalks clear
  • Ensure that your downspouts are directed away from foundations to prevent water from seeping into your basement, or your neighbour’s property
  • Check your exhaust vents clear especially from furnaces and make sure they are clear of snow to prevent carbon monoxide build-up

The Town Crew is preparing to address issues as they occur and on a priority basis; the safety of people, and then property.
